Check out Bruce Monro's "Field of Light" (but it's clearly a field of Dicty), an outdoor art exhibition at Discovery Green through February 8th.  It's illuminated from 3 pm to 11 pm daily.

Houston Arboretum Cellular Slime Mold Collection

Here are some of the slime molds we collected from our trip to the Nature Center. We will need to confirm with 18s sequencing, but it looks like we now have samples of the following:

Polysphondylium pallidum

Polysphondylium pallidum

Dictyostelium purpureum

Dictyostelium purpureum

Dictyostelium mucoroides

Polysphondylium tenuissimum

Collecting Soil Samples 11/26/14

It was a great day for the student to get outside and collect soil in search for Dictyostelium. Looking under the leaf litter in shady, wooded areas we found some rich soil that looked promising to bring back to the lab for plating.
